Teen & Youth Therapy

Growing up can be complicated. Between school pressures, friendships, family expectations, and learning to understand new emotions, young people often experience challenges that can feel difficult to navigate on their own.

For many parents, watching their child struggle can feel confusing or even overwhelming. It’s important to remember that a young person’s challenges are not a reflection of parenting failures. Children and teens are still learning how to understand and express their emotions — and sometimes they simply need guidance and support along the way.

At Ari Therapy, teen and youth therapy provides a supportive space where young people can better understand what they’re feeling while developing healthy ways to express and manage their emotions.

Teen & Youth Therapy May Be Helpful When:

• Your child seems overwhelmed by emotions they can’t easily explain
• They are struggling with anxiety, mood changes, or stress
• Communication between parents and teens has become difficult
• Your child seems withdrawn, frustrated, or easily overwhelmed
• School pressures, friendships, or social situations feel difficult to manage
• You want to help your child build confidence and emotional resilience

Seeking support early can help young people better understand their emotions and develop tools that support them as they grow.

Young people are not trying to be “difficult” or “misbehave.” Often, they are experiencing emotions that feel confusing or overwhelming and may not yet have the language to express what they’re going through.

If navigating emotions can feel challenging even for adults, it can be even more confusing for children and teens who are still learning how to identify and manage their feelings.

Therapy helps young people begin to label, understand, and express their emotions in healthier ways. With the right support, many young people develop stronger coping skills, greater confidence, and a better understanding of themselves.

Supporting Young People Through Emotional Growth

Supporting Parents Along the Way

For parents, navigating these challenges can feel incredibly difficult. It’s natural to want to help your child but not always know the best way to do so.

Therapy can provide support not only for the young person but also guidance for parents as they work to better understand and support their child. With the right support and collaboration, meaningful change is absolutely possible.

Session Format

Teen and youth therapy sessions are offered virtually across Ontario through secure video sessions.

Sessions typically last 25–50 minutes, depending on the age and needs of the young person. For younger children, shorter 25-minute sessions are often recommended, as this format can be more supportive of attention span, emotional capacity, and overall comfort during the session.

Depending on the situation, therapy may include individual sessions with the youth as well as collaborative conversations with parents to help support progress both inside and outside of therapy.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

Seeking support for your child can feel like a big step, but it can also be an important one. You don’t have to carry the weight of everything on your own — having the right support can make a meaningful difference for both you and your child.
